Create A Cone

Create A Cone

If you love ice cream anywhere near as much as I do, you definitely can’t go to Atlantic City without stopping at Create a Cone.  It’s on the main floor of the Tropicana, a few steps from the beach and next to Hooters. I’m not lying when I say that I went there EVERY night while there.  This little ice cream counter has been around for a few years; the last time I went to Atlantic City with my family I tried it for the first time.  It’s kind of like Coldstone, but better.  You get to choose your ice cream flavor and the toppings you want mixed in with it, but you know how when they mix the toppings into Coldstone ice cream, the consistency gets kind of soft, weird, and gooey? Well that doesn’t happen with Create A Cone ice cream.  It’s also cheaper than Coldstone, another plus.

My favorite combination is Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream with hot fudge and Reeses cups. So good.  Also, it’s open late every night, so it’s the perfect place to stop when you get sick of losing money in the slots.

The Beach Bar

The Beach Bar

Whether you just want a few tropical drinks on hot day, or you want to party the night away under the starts, the Beach Bar located across from the Trump hotel and casino is the place to be.  The entire bar is outside and sits on a large wooden deck, on top of the sand, overlooking the ocean.  It has two bars, and a large amount of tables where guests can sip a drink, enjoy some food, and soak up some sun.

While watching the Travel Channel over the summer, I saw a show called something like “The worlds 21 sexiest beach bars.”  This beach bar was featured on the show, and I just knew I would have to go there.  I love the travel channel, and when they rate something as one of the best of its kind, I believe them.

Greg, my sister, her boyfriend, and I went to the Beach Bar for lunch one afternoon because it’s most likely 21 plus at night.  Since I was already 21, I got some fruity, frozen drink, which was refreshing, and we all got sandwhiches.  For what you get, the food is a little on the pricey side.  Also they don’t have free tap water! I’ve never been to a restaurant that doesn’t have free water, so that’s definitely a negative.  The three of them each ended up getting a tiny bottle of water for over $3.00 each.  A little ridiculous.  The food was good, though, and my sandwich was definitely filling.

Finally, next time you’re in Atlantic City you definitely HAVE TO eat breakfast at Country Kitchen.  Located at the Days Inn next to the Tropicana, the Country Kitchen has the best breakfast around.  Their pancakes are absolutely amazing; they taste like they’re made with cake batter. Nothing starts a fun filled day better than a hearty breakfast.

Any other Atlantic City favorites?

The Tropicanan

The Tropicana

Now that it’s been over a month since I was in Atlantic City, I guess it’s time to finally write my review.  This was my first time in Atlantic City as a 21 year old, but gambling has never appealed to me.  The casino was cool, but nothing too amazing. Let me start by saying that I’ve been to Atlantic City many times, and we’ve stayed in the Tropicana every time.  I like its location on the boardwalk, shopping and dining, shows, and its low price.  We have never had a bad experience there..until this year.  According to my dad, the Tropicana recently filed for bankruptcy, so maybe that’s why.

It all started at check-in.  We waited in line for over a half hour, and when we got up to the desk we requested our two rooms, two connecting rooms if possible.  The woman at the front desk told us that she had two connecting rooms next to each other, but only one was clean.  It would be another two hours for the second one to be cleaned. We said that it was fine, and brought all of our stuff up to the room that was ready.  We went out to dinner, walked on the boardwalk for a bit, and came back five hours later. Our room wasn’t ready yet. We went down to the front desk, and they made it seem like it was our fault for picking a room that wasn’t ready.  We requested a manager, but never saw one.

Finally, around 11:30, after a few trips down to the front desk, our second room was ready. Then, in one of the rooms, the toilet was leaking, and the bathroom floor flooded.  Not a great first night at all.  Fortunately, we were upgraded to a room in the newest tower, the Havana Tower and were granted late check out because of our troubles.

The rooms in the Havana tower are average hotel rooms, but they have nicer TVs, better water pressure in the showers, and mini fridges.

Other than that fiasco, the Tropicana is still one of my favorite hotels.  The addition of the new “Quarter” with its many stores and restaurants has greatly added to its appeal: we never had to go far to find a good place to eat.  Another plus was the coupon book that we received at check in.  It must have been for a special promotion, but it was definitely nice to get the extra savings.

Now that school has started, I’ll probably be writing even less often than I did during the summer. I really love posting, but it’s just so hard when I have class, homework, and have to work pretty much full time every week.

On the bright side, my roommates and I have already started thinking about spring break trips. It’ll probably end up being some place in Florida.

Hopefully I can write a few quick posts about my trip to Atlantic City, now that it’s been a month since we went.
